Cultural Projects

It has been true for decades, if not longer, that the arts have a home in the Berkshires. Due to geography, scenery and history, our county has been able to create and maintain scores of culturally significant places.

We have been fortunate to have had opportunities to work with a number of cultural institutions to assist their efforts. We have assisted the Clark Art Institute from repairing leaking skylights, to rehabitating their Art Conservation Center, to constructing their new maintenance facility.

At Norman Rockwell Museum at Stockbridge, we worked with owner to select site and designers. We also relocated Rockwell’s studio from his South Street home to Linwood in Glendale, constructing a new foundation and replacing roof. We remodeled and refurbished the caretaker’s quarters and two units in the Carriage Barn. We also developed a new electrical infrastructure within Linwood House.

At Hancock Shaker Village, we constructed a new museum building, an independent Shaker store and a barn to enclose the timber structure connecting the museum to the store.

The largest summer attraction in the Berkshires is Tanglewood, summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Over the past two decades, we have completed nearly twenty projects, large and small for Tanglewood, working on nearly half of campus buildings during an accessibility upgrade. We performed a full three-phase structural upgrade of the masonry veneer of Ozawa Hall, including roofing repairs and interior improvements. We have fully redone the exterior of the original Tappan cottage, and upgraded structure and accessibility at the Opera Theater.

Most recently, we completed the concrete work at the Building 6 expansion of Mass MoCA, the largest contemporary art museum in the world.

Our care and craftsmanship make us well-suited for work at these iconic cultural institutions.
