Our Company

David J. Tierney, Jr. founded our company in 1959 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. In early years, he specialized in residential construction. Projects included the successful development of the Sherwood and Friar Drive area and the residential complex at One Colt Road, all located in Pittsfield.

In 1963, the company was incorporated and increased emphasis was placed on commercial, industrial and public construction.

After building Kay Bee Toys Headquarters, Pittsfield’s Parcel 3 Urban Renewal led to formation of Tierney Properties, Inc., our development corporation for 66 West Street. Twenty-eight years’ experience as developer coupled with landlord with responsibility for over 100,000 square feet of commercial space has enabled us to better understand an owners’ physical, financial and maintenance needs and concerns. Hotel on North at 297 North Street is our most recent commercial venture into downtown Pittsfield.

We have used many building approaches to satisfy client requirements. Beginning as a general contracting firm, we have expanded our capabilities to perform projects with construction management and design-build approaches, as well as working on a turn-key and negotiated basis.

Our company is able to guide every phase of the construction process from site selection and earliest conceptual designs to final project close out. As construction manager, we work together with owners and designers to ensure project requirements are satisfied promptly and economically. We can save owners both time and money by actively participating in design phase planning, closely monitoring costs and efficiently supervising and scheduling each phase of construction. To the best of our ability, we also perform this service as general contractor.
