David J. Tierney III
Being raised in the Tierney family enabled David to gain a great deal of early experience and knowledge of the construction business. He spent early summers working on job sites, starting as a laborer, working several years as a carpenter and has acquired a firm understanding of the responsibilities and methods of the trades. In 1995, he became president of the family business.
David graduated from Merrimack College in May 1986 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. At Merrimack, he studied Engineering Economics, Computer Applications and Structural Engineering. In addition, course work in construction management and accounting has given David a strong background in modern construction practices. He is licensed in Massachusetts as a Construction Supervisor.
In addition to overall management of the company, David is the company's chief estimator and handles structural design when needed. David oversees field personnel, consisting of carpenters, laborers, and operating engineers. Working alongside the company's foremen and project managers, David ensures timely completion of projects and maintains collaborative working relationships with owners, architects and engineers.
Over the course of David's nearly 40 year career with the company, he has supervised completion of nearly every company project. Recent notable projects include the 45 room Hotel on North in Downtown Pittsfield, cast-in-place concrete for the new Taconic High School, a brand new amenities building for Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood, multiple projects at Williams College, and a renovation of a multi-unit residential building on Tyler Street in Pittsfield.
David is also responsible for the administration of the Tierney Properties Building, which is located at 66 West Street, in Pittsfield, and oversees the management of Hotel on North, which he owns with his wife Laurie. David sits as the Board of Directors representative on the Building Committees at The Boys and Girls Club, and serves on the Board of Directors for Barrington Stage Company.
